Journal: June 2006 Archives
New Updates during the busy months of summer:
I have uploaded the month of Junes photo of the Stillmore Wildflower Garden.
Still traveling A.M.A.P. (as much as possible)
Yet another trip up the coast, north again. and also a day of sailing. First time out on the water aboard a vessel powered by the wind. Awesome experience. awesome!
Planning an exhibition...soon, very soon.
The Lousville Show was taken down yesterday (Thank you SMR.) The
show looked great- alot of new work, a beautiful new space to
exhibit in, and an awesome community that supports the arts. Thank
you Louisville!
And a new member in the family- a 1974 Volkswagon Camper Van! I just
dropped her off at the shop for a tune up and brake job. Hope to
cruising her home soon.
Look and listen for me on a street near you soon- beep, beep! (of course, I'll have to get the horn fixed first)
peace. it's not just an idea, it's a way of living. yesterday, on the boat, a dear friend said- 'all we have to do is make all the children of the world happy...'
everyone be cool...keep smiling...and living a life of one good deed after another.
Traveling has been keeping me busy, now I am home for some time. Working on images, building crates, and telling stories. If you have not stopped by the Averitt Center for the Arts to view Dr. Julie McGuire's exhibit- I strongly encourage you to do so- awesome show! The Roots will be exhibiting in our last gallery exhibition for a year this upcoming weekend in Louisville, Ga. For more info on that exhibition please check out www.stillmoreroots.com
On other notes- my work on the Sacred Spaces series is evolving. In a realization that the journey is as relevent or more so than the actual work...the offshoot of this new thought shall be a body of work titled Sacred Journeys- I am slowly putting together the workings for the first piece now. I am also planning an event here in Swainsboro, as more light will be shed on this as more details become clear- look for updates here on Desmundo.
The work at the Louisville Exhibition that I will be presenting is titled "Untitled" (Stillmore) featuring the third series of crates created for exhibiting and connecting the viewer to the story. Again, these crates will be locked- curiosity will be the motivator- and if the viewer is not spurred to become curious about the crates- then the work has failed.
It is through this curiousity that the viewer will be presented with a variety of options- the keys themselves again, being available to the viewer- and of course, to access the keys, the viewer will have to deface the aesthetic properties of the crate. What lies inside the crates shall remain unknown, the viewer having the ability to project their own stories, historys, or artifacts upon the crate- having a faith on what exists inside or the viewer can deface the artwork and open the crate- and be face with the reality of what lies inside- perhaps it is more than what they may have imagined and they are pleased with what they find- perhaps it is less than what they expected, and they wish the true story would have remianed untold- being able to projct thier own ideas onto and into the work-
it is the controversy of realism vs. abstract expressionism- a painting of a rose is but a rose- but a color field painting is something unique to everyone.
It is civilizations curiousty that has led us to excavate the dead and place them in museums- to break into tombs to see what lies inside- to dig into the human cadavre to see what may have caused the death- we tend to not be satisfied with leaving things alone- i am interested to see the fate of these crates- will they go home with someone- over the years will the remian locked or will they one day be opened....
i am fully aware of the contents and stories contained within- they are unique to me- yet- by leaving the crates locked- new stories can be created and their contents may be shifted to relating directly to you- the viewer.
Check out the exhibit-write me with your own story of what lies inside and why it is locked within.
