Collaboration- you, the world, and me...us.

A collaborative work- featuring you, me and the rest of the world. An artwork focused on community, local and global, a work about building peace, a work that will unify all participants on March 24, 2007. If interested, please keep reading, pass the information along to friends, spread the word and let's unite....
I am desmal, an artist working out of Stillmore, Georgia...a member of the StillmoreRoots Group. The artwork that this project focuses on is a site specific installation work for the 5th Annual Art in the Woods event- a gathering of people, showing up on my grandparents farm, to share an experience. This year I would like for that experience to be felt globally- I want to create a connection on March 24. To create this work I need stones and I need you. Large stones, small stones and any stones in the middle. Stones from all corners of the globe...and I need you to send them. Just don't send them all...hold onto one for yourself...one to pass along to a friend, a loved one, a stranger. The stones will become part of something much larger- their origins listed, they will become the installation. The space has been constructed and it sits empty, awaiting your stones. On March 24, hold that stone, and know that others around the globe are also holding their stones...thinking of you and your stone....and in Stillmore, Georgia....a small town with a population of 730 people, on a farm, tucked away in the pines, stones you sent will be held by others. Making global connections, your stones will sit with other stones, they will be held...as you explain your stone on the 24 of March, a stone from your area will be being discussed on the same day in another region of the world.
If you plan on attending the event, please bring a stone for an interactive element the day of the festival.
It sounds so impossible, posting a message for help on simple website....asking others to take time from their day- to mail stones across great boundries....and yet, at the same time....I have faith that it can happen.
As stones are recieved, the area will be colored in on the maps below- my hope is that this will work on two levels- one, you can see what areas are not filled in, and if you know someone from that area, perhaps you can help that happen.
Two, if the piece functions- if the stones begin to arrive- you can watch it's progress...and if no colors shift....then the communication has failed.
I look forward to recieving a stone or stones from you soon-
Thank you.
