Art Can Cure

| | Comments (0)

This Saturday night, I will have work at the Art Can Cure benefit exhibition in Savannah, Georgia. The exhibition is generating money for the Hirshberg Foundation to fight pancreatic cancer. The goal for the night is $50,000. There is a suggested $25 entry fee at the door, proceeds from sales of the artwork will be put towards the goal, as well as money generated through a raffle and silent auction. For more information, check out: www.artcancure.org
Hope to see you there.

Falling through fall...

The length of fall seems to have been prolonged with a possibility of pushing through into spring. My plants are confused, having been pulled inside to avoid a lone frost, now stuck gazing out the windows at trees still bearing leaves and lantanas still in bloom. The colors have been spectacular though. The foilage is brilliant. As leaves linger and color spreads, trees have taken on entirely new personas...standing, covered in yellow in the midst of green pines. Or pushing through in a rust colored red, standing isolated against the evergreens.

Green.
Yellow.
Red. the lone leaf lingers...
fluttering.
fall.
falling.
fell.

Yurts, living within the circle, close to the roots. Reconnecting with the land...scape. Escape, from the modern landscape, breaking from the geometric in a quest for the organic. Finding curves where once there were only rigid lines. A deconstruction of the dark corner and implementation of the lit curve.
Find your way to the circle. Enter into the gracious company of Mary Beth and Fred, owners of Cedar House Inn and Yurts, a bed and breakfast located outside of Dahlonega, Georgia. For more information on Yurts check out Fred's writings at Yurt Living.

A common thread

Constantly digging; in the dirt, into history, and following my roots.
I have recently uncovered images Canady family figures. One, my great great grandfather, Mose Canady, his wife, Amanda and our extended family. The other, a photo of my great uncle Daniel Canady, son of Mose Canady, and brother of Desmal Canady (my great grandfather.) The images were made in Stillmore,Georgia...a landscape where my roots run deep.

Mose Canady and Amanda Edenfield Canady at family reunion. On the farm. 1915. This image was produced by R. H. Hicks Studio. Swainsboro, Georgia.

Daniel Asbury Canady and Emma Griffin Canady. Stillmore, Georgia. 1920. The home burned in 1936.

Information obtained through the Georgia Archives.

Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.

Or to be a bit more descriptive- an artist talk. Join me today at Jacks Java Cove for a Gallery Talk on The State of Oaxaca exhibition. The talk will begin at 5:30 at Jacks Java Cove.
The talk will highlight the imagery...ideas behind the creative process, a bit of historical perspective on the work, notes on the current state of political upheaval, and some personal stories relating to travel through the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Please, stop on by, grab a cup of java, and lets talk.
