the cracked earth
Good afternoon citizens of the world. I hope that everyone is doing well. The week has beeb quite productive, catching up on everything that I have been meaning to do but have yet to find time to make happen. Time, I suppose I found it, the funny thing is that it was sitting right before me all along. The grass is cut, the mail has been sorted, replies are being sent, travel plans are being made, and the Desmundo post is in due process.
First of all, if you have yet to see, An Inconvenient Truth, call your local theatre and plan on making the trip. You can find more out at www.climatecrisis.net. Check it out- be the change. It is difficult to accept the truth, that we are a problem species on the planet...we create environmental disasters, we are overpopulating the planet, we are taxing the ability for the Earth to continue to support us as a species on it's surface...and why do we do it? Why do we continue to pollute, destroy, burn, pillage, radiate, and deminish the planet and it's resources when we know that it will cause the end of life as we know it? Is it because we are only concerned with ourselves in the present? Is it because we are so caught up in the system we are blinded to it's end result? This is difficult to accept, what is even more difficult to accept is the fact that we possess the power to change this path, to correct the problem, to perserve the planet and it's ability to support us as a species-this is more difficult to accept because it deals with us as a species commiting to change. It deals with those in power, making choices based on truth and ethics over money and comfort. It deals with making a commitment to better the planet that will be difficult for us to see through...in the begining it may be tough, but only because we will be at the front of the line. Once we initiate the change, those that come after us, each generation, will find it easier to live a clean life that exists through harmony and balance over destruction and greed. This coming from a guy that just bought an old VW bus- I am already thinking of ways to lessen it's impact...could it be made electric? I will make the effort. I ask, not for my sake, for my days will come to an end before the planet begins to irradicate us...but for the sake of the children, and their children, and for those that do not have voices. Be the change.
The time to vote is quickly approaching- take part in the process, it is an oppurtunity for you to help guide the path of our nation. The Fourth of July just took place, NASA has launched another shuttle into the atmosphere and North Korea is testing long range ballistic missles. I had always imagined that nuclear was my parents problem, that in the year 2006, we would be wise enough to put an end to the nuclear threat. Self annihilation- that is what would happen. It would be the equivilant of a roach in a small box, pressing the release button on Raid Fogger. What the hell are we thinking- Nukes? I really find it hard to believe.
My country, the land of liberty=
now producing nuclear arms
refuses to sign the kyoto treaty
will allow corpertations to place private patents on genetically modified food organisms that are relativly new to science and then present this altered food for public consumption...money money money
will put our troops in harms way under false statements
and the list could go on.
Lady Liberty- please, act in an honest, ethical manner. You once stood as a symbol of hope to the world, now there are dark clouds looming overhead.
Back to the Fourth of July. The Swainsboro Kiwanis Club put on an awesome fireworks display. I was amazed by the amount of people in attendance...it seemed as if all of Emanuel County was present. And, it was the kind of fireworks display where you are constantly thinking...that had to be the finale...there is no way to top that...and then another brilliant burst of fireworks would light up the sky! Thank you Kiwanis Club for a job well done!
UTMF has a birthday rapidly approaching! Happy early Birthday- I'll be there, but I might need some directions.
I suppose I should call it a day...there is plenty of sunshine out there and this glowing monitor just can't compete!
Peace.
