Orchids
The orchid in the office window is preparing to bloom again. Thank you Elizabeth, the orchid has been facinating to watch grow, blossom, shed it's petals, and then present a new stalk, now covered with buds as it prepares to bloom yet again.
The orchid came into my hands last May, it has watched me teach class for two semesters, it has sat alone through the summer months, and now it awaits spring. The petals have been used to create mixed media artworks, as subjects to draw from, and the plant itself has been the subject of a series of photos. In the fall semester I turned my office into a pinhole camera and the heat(the orchid sat on a ledge between the window and the board that blocked the light from entering) nearly killed the plant. Crystals I have set in the glass container are now held by the plants roots, roots that are reaching out, crawling from the glass container. In May, I will repot this plant, continue to document this plant, and continue to learn from this plants existence.
Thank you Elizabeth, thank you for the orchid.
