Day one-

| | Comments (0)

Welcome to the Desmundo site. A site dedicated to my artwork with a bonus journal offering me a spot to ramble on. The site currently features images from two bodies of work- Sacred Spaces: Documenting Peru and America: Building a Dream.

Documenting Peru reflects images of Sacred Spaces throughout the Cuzco region of Peru. The sites were either deemed sacred by the surrounding peoples or they feature locations that I formed a connection with during the journeys to Peru. The images serve as research and documentation for my work on the Imperfect Balance Project. The Imperfect Balance Project is the exploration, documentation, and creation of Sacred Spaces...spaces that exist to assist in the connection between civilization and the energy of the Earth. Through the exploration, documentation, and research of these sites I become more prepared and experienced for the creation of the Imperfect Balance installation work which has been featured globally in it's actual presence, it's documentation, and it's life through storytelling. The Quechua people have a strong connection with the Earth and provided excellent information in the exploration of this project.

America Series

The America series is the reluctant result of a body of work I strongly believed I would never create. It was spawned through the idea of my grandfathers stories and now the lack of those stories due to alzheimers disease. This notion of stories that once flowed so easily of times before that have since dissapeared. Both in stories and into the past. His stories once filled my days, now those stories are gone- stories that have grown foggy since I last heard them will no longer be retold. With this loss of memory and the stories that keep the memory alive, I have begun to record my own stories. Footnotes, that will exist as reminders for me of my experiences in America. Experiences that at time seem so comfertable that they feel like home and at other times so bizarre that I question the tides of reality. The series exists to relate these images, these moments in time that I connect with the country that I call home. These moments of comfort and of disent. I have yet to find the ability to push those moments I feel so distant into this body of work, yet I feel them churning inside of me, searching for a way out. This body of work will be continuouslly updated, constantly growing as I grow, as I bare witness and participate in the events and decisions that make us who we are today. For me these images are laughter, tears, thoughts and memories...may they inspire memories in you as well.
I am working on a few other bodies of work as well- there is a botanical series as I explore life and relationships to civilization through events in the plant world.
